Step Up for Polaris – Volunteer Needs 3/2/2012

    March 1, 2012 By admin

When you see her, please thank Kristen Alix and her committee for all the hard work that has gone into organizing this Saturday’s wine tasting event.  The event will surely be a huge success to support the unique Art/Science program that our children enjoy and Kristen and her crew have been working furiously behind the scenes to pull it all together.  Let’s support them and our children by participating in any way we can, whether it’s supplying food for the event, attending and picking up a few bottles of wine, sponsoring a teacher to attend or all of the above.    As always, thanks for doing what you can!

    Current Volunteer Needs:

    Green Committee:

The Green Committee is looking for a few sustainability-minded folks to get involved with the many exciting programs the committee has already developed as well as to help implement more programs to make our school community as sustainable and healthy as it can be.  This committee not only worked to secure and install the school garden which has become an integral part of many electives classes and classroom projects, but also brought composting to our cafeteria and recently raised funds through the Little Red School House and the textile recycling program to purchase silverware for the cafeteria. No more plastic forks and spoons going to the landfill!  If you would like to be part of this important group, please plan to attend the next meeting on March 13 at 6:30 PM in the library. For more information, please contact Steph Friday at stephfriday@mac.com or Leslie Demmon at leslie@demmonstudios.net

    Art/Science Wine Tasting This Saturday!:

You probably thought the food for the wine tasting last year was provided by a caterer given the quality and beautiful presentation. Nope! It was all provided by Polaris parents and presented by parent volunteers. This year we have the addition of a sushi bar to be operated by Polaris parent Jane Hartgrove, but some food items and volunteer help will be needed for this event on March 3. Please see the Sly Reply below to supply a food item and/or volunteer at the event.

    Generator Needed:

A generator is needed for the March 22 “Love of the Arts” event. Like last year, the event will feature a chili tasting, but unlike last year we hope to keep the chili hot and avoid blowing all the circuit breakers! If you can provide a generator for the evening, please contact Alicia Rigsby at rigsbyalicia@comcast.net or Laine DiPasquantonio at laine.dipas@comcast.net.

    Book Fair Coordinator Needed:

Gail Axt, our fabulous librarian, is looking for one or two folks to help her coordinate the Spring book fair this year (May 8-10).  Duties will primarily involve recruiting and training the parent volunteers to staff the cash registers during the three-day event (before and after school only) and during the Gala the evening of May 10.  Basically, you will need to create and monitor a SLY REPLY for the staffing and contact the parent volunteers to fill them in on the process.  Please contact me if you can assist Gail with this exciting event.

Coordinator(s) Needed for Gala, May 10:

A coordinator or co-coordinators are needed to organize the annual Gala scheduled for Thursday, May 10. This event is a wonderful showcase of so many of the children’s talents and is a fantastic way to celebrate a fabulous school year. If you can step up to coordinate this event, please contact me. I will put you in touch with the person who coordinated last year.
