Music and Drama are alive at Polaris!
The music and drama classes are already in full swing. Kindergarten and 1st grade have already begun their once per week music classes. Their singing voices are very impressive. 2nd and 3rd Grades attended their first drama classes. They started telling wonderful stories and building believable characters. 4th and 5th grades have wowed their music teacher with their singing and music literacy knowledge in just two classes this year. Look for more headlines from these incredible performers!
We are very lucky to have so many musical opportunities here at Polaris.
The Polaris Choir has become an exciting elective on Friday afternoons! We will sing songs from around the world and our own back yard. Because we are a performance group a committment of two quarters is required.
There is nothing more rewarding than beginning a musical instrument. 3rd-5th graders are encouraged to begin playing a band instrument this year. These include: flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, horn in F, trombone, baritone and percussion. All third grade students will get a chance to play these instruments and select the one that will work for them. Any 4th’ and 5th grade students who wish to try an instrument may come down to the music room during lunch or speak with Ms. Patterson to set up a time. During the trial, students will play at least 3 instruments and bring home a recommendation for parents. This is only a recommendation! Ultimately, the decision is for students and parents to make.
Beginning band will be Monday and Wednesday afternoons from 3:45 to 4:45 starting August 31st. The cost is $5 per lesson and scholarships are available. Polaris has several instruments to loan students with a $25.00 refundable deposit. Those are on a first come first served basis.
The advanced band members will be setting their alarm clocks earlier on Tuesdays and Fridays this year. Rehearsals will start at 8:00 both mornings. Students who were in beginning band last year or have played their instruments for more than one school year are welcome join advanced band. Please remember that band instruments are woodwinds, brass and percussion. Sorry, strings and piano are not in band.
Students who play a school instrument may come and pick up their instrument starting Monday August 22nd. Rehearsals will start Tuesday August 30th. Lessons are $5.00 each and scholarships are available.
Strings will be starting again soon. Tentatively, beginning violin will be Wednesdays from 3:45-4:45 and intermediate violin is the same time on Thursdays. All 1st-5th grade students are invited to participate.
