Enrollment in Polaris
How do I enroll my child in Polaris?
The Denver Public Schools central office places students at Polaris through a two-part process. We don’t decide who comes to our school – but we gladly welcome students who are placed here.
- First, your child will need to take a test to become eligible for enrollment in Polaris. Please contact the central Denver Public Schools Gifted and Talented Department about this testing. There is one test for the Advanced Kindergarten Program and another for the Highly Gifted and Talented Program.
- If the Denver Public Schools Gifted and Talented Department tests your child and identifies him or her as eligible for enrollment at Polaris, then your next step is add Polaris to your child’s school “choice” form through the Denver Public Schools SchoolChoice process, managed by Choice and Enrollment Services. Not all families who select Polaris gain a place a Polaris.
Does my child need to take a test in order to enroll in Polaris?
Yes. The central Denver Public Schools Gifted and Talented Department requires and provides testing for eligibility for placement at Polaris. We do not provide testing here at our school. To find out if or when you need to apply for testing for your child, please contact the Denver Public Schools Gifted and Talented Department as soon as you think you might want to have your child tested. They have the most current and accurate information about the testing. Once your child takes a test and is identified as eligible for placement at Polaris, you can then try to gain placement at Polaris through the SchoolChoice process, managed by Choice and Enrollment Services.
How do I apply for a spot for my child at Polaris?
If the Denver Public Schools Gifted and Talented Department identifies your student as eligible for enrollment at Polaris (through testing), you’ll need to add Polaris to your student’s “choice” list through the “SchoolChoice” process managed by Denver Public Schools Choice and Enrollment Services. The phone number of Choice and Enrollment Services is 720-423-3493. The first major round of SchoolChoice placement of each school year typically occurs in the early part of each calendar year, during SchoolChoice “Round One.”
